Uniform Policy

Aims and objectives

Our policy on school uniform is based on the belief that school uniform:

• promotes a sense of pride in our school;

• helps to create a sense of community and belonging towards the school;

• identifies the children with the school;

• supports our commitment to inclusion;

• prevents children from wearing ‘fashion clothes’ that could be distracting in class;

• is practical, smart and designed with health and safety in mind;

• is considered good value for money by most parents;

Expectations

We expect all pupils to comply with this uniform policy, which will be monitored. Any pupil who falls short of these requirements will be advised of this fact by their class teacher and given the opportunity to improve. Continued failure to comply will be brought to the attention of the Headteacher.

The Role of Parents

We believe that one of the responsibilities of parents is to ensure that their child has the correct uniform and PE kit, and that it is clean, in good repair and that the child’s name is written on all items.

The Role of Governors

The governing body supports the Headteacher in implementing the School Uniform Policy. It considers all representations from parents regarding the uniform policy and liaises with the Headteacher to ensure that the policy is implemented fairly and with sensitivity. It is the governors’ responsibility to ensure that the school uniform meets all regulations concerning equal opportunities. Governors ensure that the school Uniform Policy enables children to dress sensibly, in clothing that is hardwearing, safe and practical.

All pupils are requested to wear school uniform which is as follows:

• Black Trousers

• Red Tartan Skirt/Red Tartan Pinafore Dress

• White Polo Shirt

• Red Sweatshirt/Sweat Cardigan

• Red Fleece Jacket (optional)

• Blue Sweatshirt/Sweat Cardigan for Year 6 Pupils only

• Red & White Gingham Dress (Summer)

• Plain Sensible Black Shoes (not trainers or boots)

• Black Socks

• Black Tights

All pupils are required to have the following PE kits in school every week:

• Indoors – Black trainers (velcro fasten for EYFS/KS1) plain or school branded red t-shirt and red shorts

• Outdoors – Black trainers (velcro fasten for EYFS/KS1) plain or school branded red t-shirt, unbranded red tracksuit top (no hoodies), red shorts, unbranded black tracksuit bottoms/leggings.

• ALL clothing should be clearly marked with the child’s name.

• Pupils will not be allowed to take part in PE and Games wearing fashion wear and neither should it be worn as normal school clothing

Second Hand Uniform

Throughout the year at school, we hold Pop-Up shops and Swap Shops at the end of an academic year offering used uniform, in addition to the annual event held by South Ribble Borough Council, offering free school uniform. Please contact the School Office to enquire about second-hand uniforms.

Jewellery

For reason of safety, ear rings are not allowed but the wearing of studs, if necessary, is permitted.  It would be appreciated if children intending to have their ears pierced, would do so in the summer holidays so that the wearing of studs, is reduced to a minimum.  The wearing of other jewellery is not permitted. LEA policy states that no jewellery can be worn during PE, games or swimming lessons including studs.
