Hello and welcome to Year 3. The children are now in Key Stage 2 which is a very exciting and nervous time, we are here to help and support every step of the way. We have exciting topics to cover and you will find information about this uploaded in a curriculum newsletter at the beginning of each half term.
My name is Mrs. Napier and I am the class teacher who will be teaching the children. Mrs. Quinton will teach the class all day each Tuesday and Mrs. Hollowood is the Class Learning Assistant along with Miss Laher.
Books will be changed as often as possible, please return reading books to school each day, even if it has not been read and add your comments to the reading diary. During Year 3 the children will continue to develop their confidence with reading and will be reading books with longer text and more complex sentence structure to encourage your child to be an independent reader. Your child will be assigned to a book band which fits his/her current level of reading. Please encourage your child to read books from home and from the library. You can support your child by encouraging him/her to read daily and ask questions about what has been read e.g. about the characters, plot, predictions for the remainder of the book.
Each Friday one child will be chosen to be our ‘Star of the Week’ and some children will be chosen for Good Work. Both will be celebrated on a Friday afternoon during our in class Celebration assembly.
This term the children will take part in PE on Monday and Wednesday. A P.E kit must be provided consisting of red shorts, red t-shirt and a pair of black trainers. In the Autumn and Winter months, the children will participate in PE outside (unless it is raining) so a pair of plain, black tracksuit bottoms (no leggings) will need to be worn. Please ensure that your child does not wear earrings on these days, your child will not be able to participate in PE if they cannot be removed, please also make sure that longer hair is tied back.
Any letters or reply slips that need to be returned, can be put in your child’s book bag, please do not hand it in at the office. The children are expected to check his/her bag each morning and give things in before the morning register.
The children will have access to help practice their times tables knowledge. Homework will be set every week to practice times tables as confidence and fluency. Knowing times tables is essential as the children move through the school. These can be found in the Learning Zone at the top of this webpage.
Homework is set every Friday on Purple Mash. Your child’s login details are inside his/her home reading record. Completed tasks, activities and/or photos can be taken and uploaded to your child’s portfolio on Class Dojo. Each week there will be English, Maths and Reading. Children will also receive weekly spellings to learn for an assessment each week. If you have any issues completing homework please get in touch. Thank you.
During the first few days of Autumn term, we put together a set of classroom rules. As a class, we agree to put all of these rules into one whole classroom rule. The children all agree that by following the rule, we create a happy classroom.
If what you are doing:
Interferes with learning, hurts someone’s heart or prevents you from being your best self, you shouldn’t be doing it.
Class Dojo is actively being used in Year 3. It is a fantastic two way communication tool that allows me to share what is happening in our classroom and gives you the opportunity to share in your child’s learning journey.
